Biography

With 37 years on the keys, Christie McLucas is one of the regions most experienced and diverse pianists and performers. Beginning piano at just age four, Christie quickly developed an aptitude for the instrument, combined with her personal and natural flare for performing. In the early days, school choirs lead her to develop an intuition for vocalists and a love for solo and choral accompanying, which propelled her to found and accompany a multitude of choirs and groups. Playing for a local production of Jesus Christ Superstar in her teens, kickstarted a passion for musical theatre and a love of music that includes a multitude of musical styles.

Christie considers it a privilege to have played for Jon English, Normie Rowe, Silvie Paladino, Ian Stenlake and Rachael Beck and to have played for countless productions including Wicked, The Wizard of Oz, Nunsence, and Les Misérables. Always passionate about music in the community, she was recognised with an Australia Day Citizen Award for her efforts to community arts and culture in 2011 and 2013.

Christie has her piano fingers in many pies and over the last few years, co-founded the acoustic Duo OneWord, was Musical Director for Melbourne Cabaret show Mixology, developed a Disability music and drama program, co-founded the contemporary string trio "Happiness Is," became the MD for the Bundaberg Playhouse Youth Theatre productions  and was lead pianist for the Bundaberg production of Les Misérables.

Christie also was a recipient of a RADF grant and produced original music for a singer/songwriter showcase. 2020 saw Christie land her first lead role as Tanya in the stage musical Mamma Mia in a sell-out run in early 2021.

Her passion and love for music, performing and accompaniment is exemplified in the professionalism and musicianship she brings to each and every performance and project.
